Kaiping watchtower is a multi-storey building, which is far higher than the ordinary residential buildings, so it is convenient for high-rise defense; the walls of the watchtower are thicker and stronger than the ordinary residential buildings, so they are not afraid of bandits' chiseling walls or fire attack; the windows of the watchtower are smaller than the openings of the residential buildings, all of which have iron bars and sashes, with iron plate windows and doors. The four corners of the upper part of the blockhouse are generally built with overhanging fully closed or semi closed corner fortresses. There are forward and down shooting holes in the corner fortress, which can attack the enemies who enter the village from a high position. At the same time, there are shooting holes on the walls of each floor of the blockhouse, which increases the attack points of the residents in the building.
