BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 27 -- Argentinian javelin thrower Braian Toledo died in a motorcycle accident on Thursday, just five months before he was due to compete at the Tokyo Olympics.
The 26-year-old was killed in Marcos Paz, near the capital Buenos Aires, according to Argentinian press reports.
"We have lost a great person, our dear Braian Toledo," Gerardo Werthein, the president of the Argentine Olympic Committee, said in a statement.
"He was an extraordinary sportsman, humble, generous and always supportive of others."
Toledo finished in 30th place as an 18-year-old at the London 2017 Olympics and was 10th at the Rio Games four years later.
