一位家长说，他希望孩子能读一些名着，但也只是读一些就够了，用不着读太多，因为孩子将来不一定搞文学，或去读中文系什么的。持这种态度的家长比较普遍。在上海书城见一女生埋头专注地抄写《西游记》中的段落，问她既然这么喜欢为何不索性买下来，她说是老师布置的“摘抄”作业，其实一点看不进去，边说边匆匆起身，合上书走了。在上海图书馆，一女生检索了大量名着篇目，问她平时经常看吗，答：为了完成任务。再问：对读名着有何想法？答：没什么想法。笔者在普陀区图书馆了解到，来这里借名着的同学十之八九是为了完成暑期“作业”才硬着头皮走近名着的。
