RIO DE JANEIRO, May 26 -- Former Uruguay international left-back Alvaro Pereira has spelled out a desire to end his career with former club Sao Paulo.
The 34-year-old, who is contracted to Paraguayan first division side River Plate until December, said he would play with the Brazilian outfit for free.
"It's not for money. I'd play for nothing because I was very happy there," he said in an interview with Globe Esporte.
"I know what it takes to be a Sao Paulo player and I feel that I'm qualified," added the defender, who was capped 83 times for Uruguay's national team.
Pereira was loaned out to Sao Paulo from Inter Milan in January 2017 and helped the club to second place in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings that year.
However Inter sold him to Argentina's Estudiantes in 2017 and he has since had spells with Getafe, Cerro Porteno and Uruguay's Nacional.
Pereira's hopes of returning to Sao Paulo could be aided by the presence of former Uruguay teammate Diego Lugano on the board of directors.
