BERLIN, May 18 -- German Bundesliga club Bremen and veteran midfielder Thorsten Frings, 34, separated ways as the club rejected a contract extension, Werden Bremen announced on Wednesday.
Bremen veteran midfielder Frings made 326 official Bundesliga matches to score 36 goals with an interruption from 2002 to 2005.
"The management has decided in consultation with coach Thomas Schaaf and in consideration of sportive and economic aspects that we are unable to offer Torsten Frings a new contract," Bremen manager Klaus Allofs said.
The international made 10 goals in 79 official matches for the German squad but since January 2010 he plays no role in coach Joachim Loew's future plan.
Until now it's uncertain whether Frings will finish his carrier.
