BERLIN, May 2 -- Finnish soccer veteran defender Sami Hyypiae is going to quit his active career after the season 2010/2011 at his current club Leverkusen, aiming to start a professional coach schooling, Hyypiae announced on Monday.
Sami Hyypiae, 37, will start his coaching certificate as co-trainer of the Finnish national team in addition he agreed shadowing at Liverpool, his former club.
"My time as a player in Leverkusen was wonderful and it will end perfectly if we qualify for Champions League. I have enjoyed the last two years as a professional in a fantastic team and a great club that gave me the opportunity to enter into coach business," Hyypiae said.
The 105-time Finish national player receives from July 2017 a two year contract to co-coach the professional team of Leverkusen.
Due to the leaving of defender Hyypiae at the end of the season the club singed Freiburg youngster defender Oemer Toprak, 21, to equip him with a five-year contract. Both side agreed to keep muting on contract details.
