HAVANA, Aug. 8 -- The Olympic champion in the 110m hurdles, Dayron Robles, spearheads the Cuban team ready for the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, from August 27 to September 4, the official National Information Agency (ACN) said here Monday.
"The squad will be led by Robles, Olympic champion in the 110m hurdles and the world record holder in Beijing 2008, and Yargelis Savigne, world champion of the triple jump at Osaka 2007 and Berlin 2009," the National Commissioner, Aurelio Romero, was quoted by ACN.
Robles, 24 years old, will search in Daegu the only major title missing in his career. Previously Robles had been crowned as Olympic champion Beijing 2008, world champion indoors 2010 in Qatar and Pan-American title in Rio de Janeiro 2007.
The Cuban hurdler established last Friday in London his best time of the season, 13.04 seconds, after defeating U.S. athlete Jason Richardson and David Oliver.
Romero added that the Cuban team is comprised also of the triple jumper Savigne.
Also the discus thrower Yarelis Barrios, the high jumper Victor Moya, the 400 meter runner William Collazo, the decathletes William Collazo and Leonel Suarez, and the javelinists Guillermo Martinez and Yanet Cruz, are included in the delegation.
