RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 24 -- Despite his open dissatisfaction with the lack of playing time at Sao Paulo, 20-year-old Henrique extended his contract with the team for an additional five years on Wednesday.
Voted as the MVP in Brazil's under-20 2011 FIFA World Cup, he returned to Brazil and expressed his desire to change teams in hopes of receiving more playing time.
At Sao Paulo since he was 16-year-old, the talented striker saw very limited game time and was restricted to the reserve bench.
Attracting worldwide attention, Sao Paulo's head coach Adilson Batista influenced the club's directory to make certain that he remains on staff due to his promising future.
With his new contract Henrique increased his yearly salary of roughly 68,000 US dollars to more than 450,000 per year.
Henrique expressed his content with the deal saying that he always dreamt of making history at Sao Paulo and that now he hopes to make his dreams come true.
Batista is expected to use Henrique in the immediate future, citing the lack of a playmaker up front, especially since striker Luis Fabiano has yet to play in a single match this year due to corrective surgery and ensuing injuries.
