DAEGU, South Korea, Sept. 2 -- Six athletes, including five male and one female, were elected for a four-year term in the IAAF Athletes' Commission, the IAAF said Friday in a statement.
Altogether 479 athletes, out of a total of 1840 eligible athlete voters at the Daegu worlds, cast their votes during Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 in the election. Valid votes totaled 463, accounting for only 25.2 percent of the total 1840 eligible athlete voters.
Of the 9 candidate athletes, six won with the most votes. They were high jumper Stefan Holm of Sweden, pole vaulter Monika Pyrek of Poland, hammer thrower Koji Murofushi of Japan, 110m hurdler David Oliver of the United States, shot put athlete Manuel Martinez of Spain and 5000m runner Benjamin Limo of Kenya.
The mandate starts on Jan. 1 2017 and ends on Dec. 31 of 2017, according to the statement.
The Athletes' Commission is one of the 13 member commissions under the IAAF Commissions. It has a chairman, a vice chairman and 17 members.
The IAAF Commissions are made up of experts in respective specialist areas. Meeting on an annual basis, the Commissions report and make recommendations to the IAAF Council.
