WUHAN, China, Sept. 17 -- The FIBA Asia apologized Saturday for inresponsible behaviors of Qatar and promised to take furture actions against Team Qatar after the Asian FIBA Men's Basketball Championships.
"Definitely we'll take actions against Team Qatar in a proper time, but we don't want to spoil the competitions," said Yeoh Chooo Hock, Secretary General of FIBA Asia.
The FIBA Asia released a statement Saturday night, saying "There have been certain unavoidable and unfortunate incidents in the past two days of what otherwise has been a very exciting start to the Championships.
FIBA Asia expresses its deeepest regrets on these unforeseen and inresponsible acts of Team Qatar, which has caused a minor aberration on the shine of the Championship."
Yeoh said five of the 11 registered Qatar players were deprived off the right to play the tournament due to lack of proper papers or documents to have qualifying nationality.
Qatar lost 27-12 to Uzbekistan in less than six minutes, and 40-4 to Iran in 7:42 minutes when four of the five avaible players took quick fouls and walked off the court in the first two games.
Players of Qatar apologized to fans after they played a full-time match against Chinese Taipei, losing 94-78 on Saturday.
