　　2012年12月14日美国康涅狄格州桑迪胡克小学发生枪击案，造成包括枪手在内的28人丧生，其中20人是儿童。枪手为男性，名为亚当-兰扎，家住新泽西州。这是美国历史上死伤最惨重的校园枪击案之一。

　　美国康涅狄格州校园枪击案发生后，总统奥巴马已第一时间致电康涅狄格州，向受害者的家庭表示慰问，同时又下令白宫和政府建筑物降半旗致哀。

　　在短暂的发言中，奥巴马数度拭泪。他哽咽着说：今天死去的大多是儿童，都是5到10岁漂亮的小孩，他们原本有前面有着长远的人生：生日、毕业、结婚、生儿育女。

　　This afternoon I spoke with Governor Malloy and FBI Director Mueller. I offered Governor Malloy my condolences on behalf of the nation and made it clear he will have every single resource that he needs to investigate heinous crime, care for the victims, counsel their families. Weve endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years, and each time I learn the news I react not as a president but as anybody would, as a parent. And that was especially true today. I know theres not a parent of America, who doesnt feel the same overwhelming grief that I do. The majority of those who died today were children, beautiful little kids, between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. They had their entire lives ahead of them birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own.
