　　你可能觉得他的汉语意思和以前学过的not onlybut also有些相似，可在意义上他们还是由一些区别的。前者是并列关系，也就是说both和and后面的词可以随意调换，不影响意思的表达。比如：Both Tom and Bob are good-looking guys.你说成Both Bob and Tom are good-looking guys.意思是一样的。而not only but also是递进关系，更强调also后面的内容，比如：I passed not only the Chinese test, but also the English one.意思就是：我不但通过了语文考试，还通过了英语测试呢！（显然是讲英文更难一点。）

　　另外，在用法上它们也有差异，bothand只能和词或词组相连，而not onlybut also还可以和句子相连。比如：想表达我不但去了纽约，还去了伦敦，就可以说成：I visited both New York and London./I not only visited New York but also London.但是下面这句话Not only does he have to type out the answer on a computer, but he also gets the computer to translate into sounds. （他不仅要把答案在电脑上打出来，而且还要让电脑把它译成声音。）就不能用bothand来替换了。
