【解题经验】在阅读文章第一段时,读到but一词就应该敏感地感觉到其后的内容是作者真正要说明的观点,而but前的内容只不过是作者为表述自己真正的观点所作的铺垫而已。抓住了这一点无疑就把握了文章的核心思想,整个第二段所说明的观点也就可以通过定位到but后的内容上来而迎刃而解了。
例四. 我们不仅要熟悉转折连词在第一段的情况,还要熟悉转折连词被置于其他位置上时的情况。2001年第四篇文章最后一段:
Yet the fact remains that the merger movement must be watched. A few weeks ago, Alan Greenspan warned against the megamergers in banking industry. Who is going to supervise, regulate and operate as lender of last resort with the gigantic banks that are being created? Wont multinationals shift production from one place to another when a nation gets too strict about infringements to fair competition? And should one country take upon itself the role of defending competition on issues that affect many other nations, as in the U.S. vs. Microsoft case?
【正确思路】最后一段开头出现的yet意为:但是。无论是从意思上还是从结构上,都将其视作等同于but。所以在此,yet表明最后一段和前文的意思发生了重大改变,从逻辑上要去反义。最后一段的第一句话就是整段的主题句,其意思很明确:公司的合并必须要受到监管。
