Two Chinese national flags were raised *simultaneously at the awards ceremonies for the women’s and men’s table tennis final on Aug 11 and 12. Ding Ning, 26, beat teammate Li Xiaoxia, 28, and Ma Long, 27, won over Zhang Jike, 28, to claim the gold *respectively.

8月11日和12日举行的女子和男子单打乒乓球决赛中，两面中国国旗在颁奖典礼上同时升起。26岁的丁宁击败了28岁的队友李晓霞，而27岁的马龙则战胜了28岁的张继科，分别获得一枚奥运金牌。

But if there weren’t rules in place which only allow each country to enter two athletes per event, China would probably have had three flags flying that day.

如果不是按照规定，每个国家只能派出两名运动员参加同一项目，那天或许会有三面五星红旗在赛场上飘扬。

According to statistics from Quartz, “nobody dominates a sport quite like China does table tennis”. The Chinese table-tennis team has the highest percentage of gold wins at 85.7 percent while the US basketball team 78.6 percent.

据美国媒体Quartz 数据显示，“没有哪个国家能像中国在乒乓球项目上那样，在某一个体育项目上有如此强大的统治力”。中国乒乓球队获得的金牌数量占这个项目金牌总数的85.7%，位列榜首。而美国篮球队的这一比例则为78.6%。
