Cuban athlete Dayron Robles would like to beat his own 110m hurdles world record at the Czech Golden Spike meet to be held on June 17 in Ostrava, the Czech news agency CTK said on Thursday. Robles, 22, set the 12.87 seconds world record at Golden Spike in 2008. He also won the 110m hurdles race at the Beijing Olympics last summer.
Apart from Robles, another gold medallist from Beijing, 800-meter runner Pamela Jelimo from Kenya, is to take part in this year's Golden Spike, CTK said.
Dayron Robles of Cuba celebrates after men's 110m hurdles final at the National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, during Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Aug. 21, 2008. Dayron Robles won the title with 12.93 seconds
Jelimo, 19, who will take part in the Golden Spike for the first time, wants to beat the world record in her race, too. She also plans to meet the current world record holder, Czech Jarmila Kratochvilova, at the meet in Ostrava. Kratochvilova has already been holding the record for 26 years.
