　　adapt 通常指通过自身的调节逐渐地适应外部的环境和情况，这个调节需要一个过程；“改编，改装”，通常用在写作中，如改信，改文章等。

　　adjust 是指通过调整、改变以达到要求，有“调整”或“校准”的意思，这个调节过程比较迅速，并且获得的效果比较快而且明显，常用于机械类的调整。
