　　Last month, our school held a sports meeting. My classmate, Li Qiang, entered for the 3, 000-meter race.

　　Every day after school, he would go to the playground to train himself for half an hour no matter how bad the weather was and how much schoolwork he had to finish.

　　When the big day came, everybody in our class was excited. We all went to cheer for him. He stood at the starting point, looking relaxed and confident. For the first four laps he was ahead of the others, but unfortunately he fell over something and his left foot was badly hurt. Some of the classmates rushed to him and helped him. We tried to persuade him to stop running but in vain. He insisted that he should go on. When he finished the race with great effort, we were all moved to tears.

　　Though he didn’t win the race, he won our admiration and our cheers for his persistence and his courage.
