“We have to protect them，” Wilson seventh­grader Hunter Strickler said.“Or some of the fish could go extinct.”

　　Strickler was right.When the United States was first founded, rivers and streams across the continent were filled with fish.Since then，pollution, overfishing and loss of natural habitat have pushed some species to the danger of extinction.

　　Thanks to the kids in the “Trout in the Classroom” program, trout are being re­introduced into rivers and streams across the country.And by doing that, the kids are helping to restore (恢复) their local ecosystems.

　　In Helena, the kids from Hawthorne Elementary released their trout into Spring Meadow Lake.

　　“I hope they get big and nothing eats them，” said Seneca Street fourth­grader Alexandra Cianfrocco.

　　“It was really fun，” said Hawthorne Elementary fourth­grader Justin Tofflemire.“I think it's something I' d want to do again.”
