MADRID, June 5 -- Granada football club have become the second side to secure their promotion to the Spanish Liga Santander for next season.
The club, which is owned by Chinese businessman, Jiang Lizhang, who is also a part owner of the NBA side, Minnesota Timberwolves, drew 1-1 away to Mallorca on Tuesday night to confirm their return to the elite of Spanish football after two seasons in the second division, Liga 123.
Part of the reason for the success of the side coached by Diego Martinez was their tightly organized defense, which conceded just 27 goals this campaign, the fewest in the division.
Granada follow Osasuna, who on Friday were confirmed as Liga 123 champions, in returning to the Liga Santander, while the third and final team to win promotion will be decided by a play-off system.
At the moment Malaga and Albacete have assured their place in the playoffs with Mallorca, Deportivo La Coruna, Cadiz and Real Oviedo all looking to secure the last two playoff places in the final game of the season this weekend.
Tuesday also decided the sides that were relegated to the third tier at the end of the campaign, with Madrid based Rayo Majadahonda joining Cordoba, Gimnastic Tarragona and Reus, who went bankrupt midway through the season in Segunda B next season.
Rayo had been winning 3-1 in Oviedo, but allowed the home side to complete an incredible fightback to win 4-3 and condemn them to relegation.
