NANNING, Oct. 20 -- Spaniard Enric Mas Nicolau of Deceuninck-Quick Step won the fourth stage of the 2019 Gree UCI WorldTour Tour of Guangxi in three hours, 52 minutes and 43 seconds on Sunday.
During the most challenging stage with three sprints and two climbs, Wang Meiyin (Bahrain-Merida) from China made a breakaway after flag off together with Ryan Mullen (Trek-Segafredo), Hamish Scheurs (Israel Cycling Academy) and Jay Thompson (Dimension Data).
Scheurs took the first sprint, Mullen took the second and third sprints and the first climb.
Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quick Step) attacked during the uphill finish with 3km to go. Nicolau followed an acceleration by Antwan Tolhoek (Jumbo-Visma) and outsprinted Dani Martinez (EF Education First) on the line to claim his first win of the season in his last race for Deceuninck-Quick Step before transferring to Movistar next year.
After the fourth stage, Nicolau became the double winner of red and white jerseys as the overall individual leader and best young rider respectively, while the blue jersey was kept by German Pascal Ackermann of Bora-Hansgrohe. Mullen was awarded the "most active rider".
The fifth and penultimate stage is the longest for a distance of 212.2km from Liuzhou to Guilin.
