Chinese legal activist Chen Guangcheng, who's in the United States after escaping house arrest, has urged Washington to investigate his case. He's asked for protection for his family in China after his nephew has reportedly been arrested and charged with manslaughter. Adam Brookes reports.
Chen Guangcheng, the blind Chinese human rights lawyer, caused a serious diplomatic incident back in April when he escaped his Chinese captors and sought the protection of the US embassy in Beijing. Now he's in the United States, living the life of an exile. And after meetings in the US Congress, he said guarantees given him by the Chinese government before he left China have not been adhered to. Mr Chen has many supervisors in the US Congress, but like many exiled Chinese dissidents before him, he may find it hard to effect the change he seeks back in his own country.
