需要注意的一点是,foot the bill很多时候用在比较负面的语境里。付钱的人往往是在不得已的情况下支付别人的账,自己并非心甘情愿。上面那个例子里,Justin的叔叔就是因为侄子想讨女朋
友欢心,所以平白无故地做了一回“冤大头”。

未了,再回到文章开头提到的bill。在美国,餐馆的账单一般用check.但其他账单还是用bill,尤其是那些每月一付的,比如电费、水费、煤气费、电话费、上网费等。(在英国没有这样的区别,只要是账单,都用bill。)
