Jack doesn't let Henry sleep on his bed，so that's an area where I can always gain big points. I feed him higher­quality dog food，though Jack would dispute that. I keep on hand three kinds of treats，which I store in his special Snausages decanter(香肠玻璃瓶)．You raise the lid and it barks out，“Snausages，Snausages，Snausages，”at which Henry and my cat come skidding into the kitchen.

　　Now，that's the way to give a pet a treat.

　　Furthermore，I am always replacing Henry's expensive“thingy”，a big cotton knot he tosses about and chews on. It's his favorite toy，and the only one he has is at my house. Score another one for me.

　　In August，Henry accompanied me to Maine，where he had the best time of his life. I couldn't wait to call Jack with the news.

　　“You should have seen Henry，”I gloated. “He ran free for an entire weekend，swam in the lake all day and was petted and loved by six other people. Plus，he still got to sleep with me every night. ”

　　Jack retorted，“Well，I just took him camping. And there were lots of people around to pay attention to him. ”

　　What a feeble attempt to one­up(占优势)me，I thought. Camping in a big campground with a lot of people，where that poor canine wasn't allowed to run free. Doesn't sound like much fun to me.

　　So far，Henry doesn't have a stepmother，but Jack does have a girlfriend，which means she's probably laying the groundwork to take over. At first she was afraid of dogs，which secretly delighted me. But that darn Henry，just trying to be polite，won her over.
