The Paralympics is a high-level sports meeting for six different types of disabled people. The disability categories of athletes participating in the Paralympics are: vision disability, amputation, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, other limb disability and intellectual disability. The Paralympics has always been held in the same year as the Olympics, and since the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics and the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, the venues for the Paralympics have also been the same as the Olympics.
In October 2000, the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee signed an agreement at the Sydney Olympic Games, defining the basic principles of the future relationship between the two organizations. In June 2001, the two sides further signed an agreement to guarantee the organizational form of the Paralympic Games, and established a practical mode of applying for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games simultaneously and holding the Paralympic Games in the same city, that is, when a city applies for the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games at the same time. The Agreement deals with the overall scope and organization of the Paralympics and aims to establish similar principles for the organization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
