Among them are more than 150 foreign companies, including 39 Fortune 500 firms.
The expo features nine high-level dialogues, including one on big data and global efforts on poverty alleviation, as well as more than 50 forums.
It will also include a global competition on artificial intelligence and autonomous driving.
Wang Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, made a speech at the opening ceremony.
Noting the importance of the digital economy, Wang said China will speed up efforts to build its strength in data, which will be harnessed to improve governance, alleviate poverty, benefit society and people, and advance the development of global digital economy.
Wang stressed China's willingness to work with other countries to share development opportunities and jointly boost the big data sector in the face of rising unilateralism, nationalism and trade protectionism in the world.
