Mr. Plouffe (pronounced Pluff), who is 45 years old, has been working in Washington politics for more than 20 years and lives in the area with his wife and two children. He entered the White House 22 months ago and is expected to leave after the election. He arrived in the wake of sweeping Democratic losses in the 2010 midterms, which were seen as a rejection of Mr. Obama's first two years in office.
