我们国家的产品热销全球，被誉为"世界工厂(world factory)"，但一提到"中国制造(made in China)"，往往令人联想到科技含量低下、价格低廉的商品(inexpensive manufactured goods with low technological content)。中国拥有核心科学技术或独立知识产权的企业(enterprises with core technology or independent intellectual property rights)也少之又少，国内许多行业对外来技术的依赖占到了50%以上，而在美国、日本等发达国家，这一数字仅为5%。

国内企业作为原始设备制造商(original equipment manufacturers)利润稀薄，主要原因在于他们没有独立品牌、独立设计和独立核心技术。中国想重构全球产业链条(global industry chain)就必须从加工工厂(processing factory)转变为创新基地(innovation base)。
