据了解，玉兔号是中国首台月球车(lunar rover)，与着陆器(moon lander)组成"嫦娥三号"探测器(lunar probe Chang'e 3)。2013年12月2日1时30分，我国在西昌卫星发射中心(Xichang Satellite Launch Center)成功将嫦娥三号探测器送入轨道(send into orbit)。2013年12月15日4时35分，嫦娥三号着陆器与月球车分离，玉兔号月球车顺利着陆月球(successfully land on the lunar surface)。"玉兔号"月球车的设计寿命仅为3个月(be designed to survive just three months)。然而，自2013年12月15日在月球表面软着陆(soft-land)以来，玉兔号已经工作了31个月，远超出其设计寿命(design lifespan)。
