报道说，在英国3月23日实施严格的戒严之前，吴芃对英国基于本国国情的防疫措施表示同情。

在英国首相鲍里斯颁布有效的封锁措施之前，吴芃说他对目前英国的举措表示同情。英国没有大规模检测，迟迟不采取中国那样严格的防疫措施，这引发了越来越多的担忧。

“Different countries have a different economic and social background so it is very hard for the UK to take action like China did. The Prime Minister said he wished people would follow social distancing but at the weekend you saw many people out chatting with each other and many people went to the park near where I live in Leeds."

“不同的国家有着各自不同的经济和社会环境。所以英国很难采取像中国那样的行动。首相说他希望人们能保持社交距离，但是周末你还是看到很多人在外面聊天，我在利兹住所附近的公园里，还是有很多人聚集。”

随着新冠肺炎疫情在英国日趋严峻，英国高校停课，一些国际留学生选择暂时回国。吴芃选择留在英国。他说，中国驻英国使领馆近日给在英中国留学生发放近20万个防疫“健康包（health kits）”，而在国内的家人也提供了很多实用信息和建议，“这些都有利于我们做好防护，保护自己”。
