Most crazy storm chasers that you see on TV know well enough not to try to outrun a twister.They just try to stay far enough away from a tornado to avoid its wrath. For the rest of usamateurs, the best thing to do is shelter in place. Evacuation routes can get easily clogged withcars, especially in small towns and rural areas with fewer get-away routes. That leaves peopletrying to flee from a tornado in the more vulnerable position of being trapped in their carswhen a big one barrels through the area.

电视上那些狂热的暴风追逐者们深知无法从龙卷风中逃脱，他们会尽量离风暴中心远一点，避其锋芒。而对于业余爱好者，或者只是普通人来说，还是找个地方藏起来比较靠谱。在大城市里，所谓的“安全通道在需要派上用场的时候却被各种车子堵得水泄不通，小城镇和农村地区就更不用说了，连紧急逃生通道都少得可怜。这让想逃离龙卷风的人们处于更加危险的境地。试想人们被塞在路上，困在车中，一场大型龙卷风却在此时呼啸而来……

The best option is to go to the basement of your home, or at least to the area closest to theground. Use pillows and blankets to cover yourself from falling objects.

遇到龙卷风时，你最好躲进自己的地下室，或者至少尽量贴近地面，并用枕头和地毯将自己裹起来，毕竟谁也不能保证天上会掉下什么。
