Since the 1970s, William Bartlett, director of the Institute of Botany, University of Bonn, Germany, who is engaged in the study of plant classification, and his leading group have studied the surface structure of more than 10000 plants by means of electron microscope. This research finally revealed an interesting phenomenon: pour a few drops of glue on the lotus leaf, the glue will not stick on the leaf, but roll down without leaving any trace. The leaves covered with a very thin layer of wax crystal are clean, which is the characteristic of waterproof leaves. This phenomenon aroused Bartlett's curiosity and made the assumption that there was a causal relationship between water resistance and pollution resistance. After hard work, he invented a new technology to produce materials with completely waterproof surface and self-cleaning function. This is a widely used new technology, which makes people no longer worry about the cleaning of the top and surface of buildings, and no longer worry about the cleaning of cars, airplanes and various means of transportation.
