Of course the big question is what happens if international buyers─who currently represent 70% to 80% of the £5 million-plus market, according to Knight Frank─lose interest in Britain, leaving behind them a legacy of enclaves of overpriced property far out of reach of the local market.
'If the international buyers decided that they didn't want to come to London and its surroundings, then it would have a huge impact, because there are not enough British buyers for this sort of property,' says Mr. Cleland. 'But there is absolutely no sign at the moment that these buyers will switch off from London.'
