WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 -- U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday met with 2017 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney amid speculation that he may offer the former vocal critic of his candidacy a post in the new cabinet.
After their meeting at Trump's private golf club in New Jersey, Romney told reporters briefly that the discussion was "thorough and in-depth", ignoring questions whether he had been offered a cabinet post.
Instead, Romney called the meeting a "far reaching conversation with regards to the various theaters in the world where there are interests of the United States of real significance."
Besides Romney, Trump was scheduled to meet a long list of people Saturday afternoon in a bid to interview potential nominees for future cabinet and seek advice ahead of his inauguration on Jan. 20, 2017.
During the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Romney was a leader of the "Never Trump" movement launched by establishment Republicans who sought in vain to derail Trump's inroad into the Republican presidential nomination.
