日本抗议中国渔政船进入钓鱼岛海域

Japan’s central government rents the islands but bans landings on them to avoid upsetting China, an arrangement that has been challenged by efforts by the nationalist governor of Tokyo to buy them for possible development.

目前日本中央政府向私人所有者租借尖阁诸岛，但禁止个人登岛，以免让中国不快。具有民族主义倾向的东京都知事正在挑战这种现状，他发起了买下这些岛屿的努力，并称可能在岛上进行开发。

While a central government purchase is seen by Japanese officials as a way to maintain the status quo, it has provoked protests from Beijing and Taiwan, which also claims the islands and calls them the Diaoyutai.

In a sign of growing tensions over the islands, a Chinese Communist party newspaper said this week that Beijing should go beyond “diplomatic protests in pushing its claim to the Japanese-controlled archipelago.
